ENGLISHTOWN, N.J. – Rod Fuller, the 2006 Top Fuel winner at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park, powered his David Powers-owned H.O. Penn CAT dragster to the provisional No. 6 qualifying position Friday evening at Raceway Park with a pass of 4.551-seconds.

Fuller, who raced to a runner-up finish two weeks ago in Joliet, Ill. and ranks fifth in the POWERade Top Fuel standings, used a tune-up from crew chief Rob Flynn to power the H.O. Penn-backed dragster to pass of 4.638 seconds at 317.27 mph to earn the eighth quickest pass of Friday’s opening qualifying session. Friday evening under the lights at historic Raceway Park, the 2006 Englishtown Top Fuel winner blistered the Raceway Park quarter mile in 4.551 at 328.46 in the Caterpillar/Matco Tools rail. He qualified second at the Englishtown race last June.

“It wasn’t what we were looking for, but it ran strong on the back half and we ran top speed,” Fuller said. “Our teammate ran strong in the Matco car and we can learn from that too. Making it down the race track is important because we collect the data from every run. We won’t race at night, so it’s important to run well during the day. Making two good runs on Friday allows us to do some tire testing on Saturday. We have to run a new tire at Denver in two races, so we’ll utilize Saturday for testing since there is no post-race nitro testing allowed.”

Professional nitro qualifying resumes Saturday afternoon at Raceway Park with sessions scheduled for 1 and 3:30 p.m. (ET). His teammate, Antron Brown, earned the provisional pole at 4.502-seconds.

Headquartered in Houston with race operations located in Brownsburg, Ind., David Powers Motorsports fields the two-car Top Fuel operation of drivers Rod Fuller and Antron Brown. DPM proudly represents racing partners Matco Tools, Caterpillar, Forward Sports Marketing, Valvoline, Toyota, Ringer’s Gloves, Go Fast Sports, iLocate GPS, Goodyear, FRAM, and Autolite.
