SONOMA, Calif.– Rod Fuller raced his David Powers-owned Peterson Cat dragster to the provisional No. 7 qualifying position Friday evening at Infineon Raceway. The seven-time Top Fuel winner used an elapsed time of 3.860-seconds to clocked the seventh quickest pass of the opening day of qualifying at the 21st annual FRAM-Autolite Nationals.
Fuller, who enters the 15th race on the 2008 NHRA schedule ranked fourth in the POWERade Top Fuel standings, opened qualifying with a run of 4.190 seconds at 251.20 mph. That placed the Peterson dragster 12th in the 16-car order. Friday evening under the lights at the scenic northern California facility, Fuller used a tune-up from crew chief Rob Flynn to power the Caterpillar car to a lap of 3.860 at 311.20 positioning the Las Vegas racer seventh in the order.
“We made a pretty good run on the night run,” Fuller said. “We ran pretty early in the session and after blowing it up on the first run, we were happy with that 3.86. You always want to be higher than seventh, but considering the circumstances, it was a good run. We’ll try and run consistent on Saturday and gear up for race day.”
