GM Performance Parts racer Warren Johnson completed a solid qualifying effort on Saturday at the Fram Autolite NHRA Nationals in Sonoma, California, with his best run of 6.629-seconds, 209.33 mph earning the fifth starting position for Sunday’s final eliminations. Through each of the four sessions held over the two days of qualifying, Johnson’s Pontiac GXP was the picture of consistency, recording elapsed times quick enough to qualify on every attempt.
Having secured the 440th top half starting position of his illustrious career (in 517 total starts), The Professor heads into race day at Infineon Raceway armed with a fast race car and a wealth of tuning information, giving him good reason to feel a bit optimistic.
“Our four runs weren’t the fastest, but at least all four would have earned our GM Performance Parts GXP a spot in Sunday’s field. We made changes on every one, and even though they didn’t always produce positive results, they showed us what we shouldn’t do for tomorrow. We’ll take the data we’ve accumulated over the past two days, come up with a game plan, and work on it from there. I’d say our chances for a successful race day are pretty good.”
