J.R. Todd is bearing a northwest course into his sponsor’s race, the Lucas Oil Nationals, with a high optimism. After a disappointing Western Swing, Todd and his Lucas Oil Fuel Treatment team is now focusing on what’s ahead and all the different routes that lie before him in his efforts for the Lawrenceburg, Ind., driver to make up the 103 points deficit that he needs in evening up the difference in hopes of claiming a berth in the NHRA Countdown to the Championship.
“It’s going to be a busy week, that’s for sure,” said Todd. “Besides, we have a lot to do on Sunday. We only have three more chances to have an opportunity of getting in the Top 10. We’re 103 points out and it looks like a pretty steep task, but after last year; you can never say never. If we should break through with a string of runs, we can do it. We have to make the best of the situation and now with my crew chief, John Stewart sharing information with Morgan’s new crew chief, Jimmy Walsh, hopefully, this will set us in a new and positive direction.
“I’ve worked with Jimmy in the past and shared four wins together. I’m really looking forward to his input into our racing programs and the constructive progress Lucas Oil Racing should make.”
