Warren Johnson Gets Third Qualifying Spot At ORP NHRA

The unique three-day qualifying format at the Mac Tools U. S. Nationals found the professional categories making a single attempt on Friday evening, and Warren Johnson made the most of the opportunity in his GM Performance Parts Pontiac GXP.

Running in the right hand lane, he powered through the quarter-mile in 6.733-seconds with the top speed of the 29 Pro Stock cars making an attempt at 205.85 mph to claim the provisional third position.

With four attempts remaining over the next two days, the six-time U. S. Nationals champion was pleased to have established a solid baseline.

“The track wasn’t quite as good as we thought it would be, so we were a little off on the four-link.

As a result, it went to the right a little on that run. Still, our GM Performance Parts GXP ran good speed, and once we got the ship to leave the dock, it really hauled the mail. It’s only one run, but we believe we have something to work with this weekend.”
