Just a few days ago, Tim Wilkerson took it all at the O’Reilly Super Start Batteries NHRA Fall Nationals at the Texas Motorplex. He reclaimed his point lead in the Countdown to 1; earned his fifth win, tying his career total and he again took the lead in the Full Throttle Pit Crew Challenge. Now as he heads to Memphis Motorsports Park for the O’Reilly Mid-South Nationals, he has to do it all over again.
The excitement and celebration in Wilkerson’s hometown of Springfield, Ill. has finally settled down allowing Wilkerson and his team to focus on keeping the Levi, Ray & Shoup Chevrolet Impala SS the hottest Funny Car in the country.
“I’ve never seen my guys so pumped up,” said Wilkerson, “it’s really cool. We are so focused on making the car go down the track run after run. This week are we are going to try and focus on going rounds more than anything. We want to make sure everybody does a great job so that I’m the only guy that can make a mistake.
“Memphis is a weird track, but we made some nice runs there last year. So, we’re hoping we can do good there and with a little luck a few key people will go out early on Sunday and we will keep going. It would be great if we could get another win and build up our points lead. I think you may see the lead change hands a few times before the end of the year. Hopefully, at the end it we’ll be the ones holding it.”
