This is the hottest incarnation of Audi’s second-generation TT convertible and brings a more sporty orientation to the look-at-me sunshine machine. The wick is turned up on the turbo-four, adding 53kW/70Nm, Quattro all-wheel drive and $20,338 to the equation over the regular TT soft-top price.
The cabin features firm, superbly crafted seats that offer good back support and lateral bolstering. The cabin ambience offers Porsche-like cocooning with snug fit and major controls in easy reach. A flat-bottomed steering wheel gives good leg clearance. Instruments are pin sharp in their clarity with logarithmic speedo markings that give half the needle sweep to speeds below 100km/h (100km/h to 300km/h is reserved for the remainder), perfect for Victoria’s intolerant speed enforcement regime.
The gear shift is precise and quick to use. Roof operation is a single push-button affair and is quick to fold, at about 15 seconds. Wind buffeting is minimal, with or without the motorised wind blocker that pops up behind the roll bars. Roof up and there is little wind rustle around the fabric. Steering is sharp and the car changes direction with go-kart accuracy. All-wheel-drive grip, even in greasy conditions, is strong. The engine winds up magnificently over 3000rpm and the brakes offer hefty retardation with strong pedal pressure and good bite. Fuel consumption is passable on test at 11.2L/100km.
