Want to drive the new Renault Megane Coupe even before it’s been launched? Don’t think the guys at Renault will let you get your hands anywhere close to the car until the car’s world premiere? Don’t fret, ‘cause technology now has the answer. In a unique marketing gimmick, the wonderful people at Renault have teamed up with a strangely effective medium of bringing the Megane to the masses - thick glassed software programmers from the hugely successful Electronic Arts gaming company!
EA’s passion for all things automotive is more than evident in the vast line up of CG games that they already have for the PC, Playstation and the XBOX 360 such as the Burnout series and Nascar series. But without doubt, EA’s biggest hit in recent years has been their hugely involving ‘Need For Speed’ series that has evolved into a cult classic over the years. With great titles such as the original Need For Speed, NFS Porsche and NFS Carbon already entertaining millions of gamers across the globe, EA is now ready with their latest offering - Need For Speed: Undercover.
The timing is just right and both Electronic Arts and Renault have put in a huge effort with getting the new Megane a spot in NFS: Undercover. The team has been at it for about a year now - ensuring that the virtual Megane performs, handles and looks as close to the actual thing as possible. EA’s engineers worked in close interaction with Renault’s engineers, gathering data and feedback on how the virtual Renault handled on the screen. The result, we hear, is scintillating. It’s even got a new engine - graphic engine that is, called ‘Heroic Driving’ that makes the virtual experience at the Megane’s wheel, simply breathtaking.
