Anticipation Builds For San Antonio Speedway Season Opener

San Antonio Speedway is building up the momentum for one of the biggest racing events of the year – this weekend’s Quality Pre-Owned’s 2nd Annual Alamo 200 ASA Late Model Series (ASA LMS) Challenge race presented by Express Lube.

An action-packed weekend is anticipated, starting with the Fajita Welcome Party for all ASA LMS teams and officials on Thursday, March 1, at 7:00 p. m.

Friday’s activities get started at noon as the ASA LMS teams from all over the country unload their rigs to get ready for their practice sessions at the speedway. The first ASA LMS practice session will begin at 5:00 p. m. on Friday, March 2, followed by practice sessions by the San Antonio Speedway Weekly Classes and the Texas Pro Sedans.

Fans are invited to a “Free Friday Happy Hour” during Friday’s practice sessions. Grandstand admission is free, and all adults in the grandstands may enter the free drawing for rides in the two-seater Craftsman race truck throughout the evening. Hank Moon from The Outlaw 92.5 FM will also be doing a live, remote broadcast from San Antonio Speedway from 6:00 p. m. until 8:00 p. m. During the broadcast, Moon will invite racing fans to get an advance look at the ASA LMS racecars and join in the Happy Hour activities.

On Saturday, March 3, the pit gates will open at 10:30 a. m. to begin a full day of racing activities. The practice sessions will start at12:30 p. m., and qualifying begins at 4:00 p. m. The grandstand gates will open at 4:00 p. m., and an autograph session with the ASA LMS drivers is scheduled for 5:45 p. m. Saturday’s racing action will begin at 7:00 p. m. – featuring the San Antonio Speedway Road Runner and Sportsman classes and the Texas Pro Sedans.

The highlight of the evening will be the Alamo 200 ASA Late Model race – regarded by many as one of the most highly anticipated season openers in the history of San Antonio Speedway. So far, over 30 ASA LMS drivers from all over the nation have registered for the Alamo 200 – some of them making the long haul from states as far away as Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan and Ohio. Several San Antonio drivers will also be competing in this big event – including Tommy Grimes, Tom Grothues and Lloyd Alexander.

The starting field for the Alamo 200 is limited to 28 cars, and the winner will take home $10,000. The competition for this prestigious event promises to be tough.

San Antonio Speedway is located at 14901 State Highway 16 South towards Poteet, just 3.5 miles outside Loop 410 and inside Loop 1604.

Grandstand admission for the March 3 race is $25 for adults, $15 for senior citizens, military and spouse and students (with ID), and $5 for children 7-12. Children 6 and under are admitted free.

Families can also take advantage of a free child’s admission (ages 7-12) by picking up a “Kids Free” coupon at any Express Lube location in San Antonio. This coupon offers a free child’s admission with the purchase of an adult admission ticket.
