Beau Slocumb, a 22-year-old from Juliette, Georgia has been hired to drive the No. 08 Ford Fusions fielded by Brothers Racing Team for the remainder of the 2007 season, 2008 and 2009. He will compete primarily in the ASA Late Model Series Southern Division.
Slocumb becomes teammates with 17-year-old Wood Brothers/JTG Racing developmental driver John Wes Townley, who pilots the No. 09 Zaxby’s Ford. A two-time ASALMS Southern Division Feature Winner, Slocumb unofficially finished Seventh in his debut with B. R.T. during Saturday night’s Florida 100 at New Smyrna (FL) Speedway. His next event will be the Crimson 125 at the historic. 625-mile Birmingham (Ala. ) International Raceway on Saturday July 14.
Slocumb and Townley will have an open door policy when it comes to sharing notes on chassis setups and tips on navigating the tracks in the ASA Late Model Series. “I am absolutely ecstatic to have the opportunity to drive for Brothers Racing Team, ” Slocumb said. “I think this is going to work out great for both of us. This will definitely be my opportunity to go forward in my racing career. “
After qualifying fourth and running in the top 10 much of the evening on Saturday, Townley was forced to settle for an unofficial finish of 16th at New Smyrna following a Turn 1 mishap with 14 laps remaining. Townley is confident the addition of Slocumb will make him even more competitive in the highly-respected ASA Late Model Series.
