One thing has been a constant throughout the brief history of the ASA Late Model Series Presented by GM Performance Parts. Since the days of the USPRO Cup Series in 2003, only two drivers have made at least one start every season since the inaugural campaign, one of those drivers is Bob Varney, the other is Bill Tomlinson.
As far and wide as the ASALMS has traveled throughout the first four years of the series’ existence, there was Tomlinson and his family owned and operated Tomlinson Racing Team. A definite void was felt when for the first time in 47 races, Tomlinson was a no show at the 2006 ASALMS Challenge Division Season Championships at the Iowa (IA) Speedway on October 14, 2006.
Despite missing the Iowa event and then a few weeks later, missing the ASALMS portion of the 24th annual All-American 400 weekend in Nashville, Tennessee as well, Tomlinson and his crew were thoughtfully mentioned more than once and was sincerely missed by the ASALMS Officials and especially ASALMS Co-Founders/Presidents, Ron and Sandy Varney.
For the 2007 season, Bill Tomlinson and the Tomlinson Racing Team will once again focus their efforts on the full schedule of events within the crown jewel of the ASALMS, the Challenge Division. In addition, Tomlinson will run select events in the ASALMS Northern Division as well as an Outlaw Bodied Late Model at his home track of the Kalamazoo (MI) Speedway when his ASALMS schedule allows.
“Bill, is a great example of what this series is all about. After saving his money all week, Bill comes to race track with his Mom and Dad as his crew and is able to be just as competitive as the big budget teams. ” Remarked ASALMS Co-Founder/President, Ron Varney. “Last year at Oswego, Bill made the long haul and wound up finishing in ninth. That proves the rules package we have in place is working. Each year we look forward to having Bill and his family race with us and this year is no exception. “Varney stated.
