The most powerful ‘Naked’ bike BMW has ever built will be on-track at Willowbank Raceway for the Morgan & Wacker Motorcycle shootout this Sunday March 8 in an Australian first.
The new BMW K1300R has a maximum output of 127 kilowats (173 bhp) which makes it the most powerful naked (without body fairings/panels) bike produced by the company, and it will make its quarter mile debut this weekend thanks to the team at Morgan & Wacker.
Morgan & Wacker BMW Motorrad Manager Tony Ward will be the one to test out the bike’s drag racing legs on Sunday, competing in the Stock Street category.
“I am the lucky one who gets to be the trigger man and test this bike out,” said Ward.
“With the bike’s new features and raw power it will be the fastest stock street BMW motorcycle ever to drag race, which is a very exciting development for us at Morgan & Wacker.”
“The BMW K1300R is just all about what its tagline says – Pure Power, Pure Acceleration, Pure Adrenalin, Pure Emotion – and I can’t wait to get out there.”
“The design has supreme handling by optimised suspension geometry, optimum mass distribution and a perfectly balanced overall concept.”
“A new feature for BMW is the Sports HP Gearshift for shifting up (no clutch) without the slightest interruption of power and traction available, and combining that with the 1293cc engine I am really looking forward to getting it down the track.”
The Morgan & Wacker Motorcycle Shootout is just part of the action at Willowbank Raceway in the lead-up to the Castrol EDGE Tin Top Titles on Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 April, 2009, which will see all of the professional action from Top Doorslammer, Pro Stock and Pro Stock Motorcycle over the two days.
