The fourth installment of the 2007 ARCA RE/MAX Series schedule sends ARS (ARCA RE/MAX Series) Rookie-of-the-Year leader Phillip McGilton and Brewco Motorsports to the breathtaking Salem Speedway in preparation for Sunday’s Kentuckiana Ford Dealers ARCA 200 by Federated Auto Parts.
McGilton and his team motor into the Southern Indiana based track hoping to improve on their previous short track effort of the season streaming back to March at USA International Speedway where the group collected a 13th place finish.
This time around, the third short track event of McGilton’s ARCA career brings some confidence after a intense testing session earlier this month amounted to fast lap times and some welcomed confidence.
“We had a good test session, ” said McGilton, hailing from Marion, Illinois. “We had several agendas during the eight hour session. We made some great progress which gives me high hopes for Sunday’s event. Our team is capable of running up front and being in contention, we plan to reinitiate that this weekend. ”
Currently sitting fourth in ARCA RE/MAX Series driver points with the top-three in his sights; McGilton knows that surviving the Salem brawl usually means a good day in the finishing order and point standings.
“Short track racing is fun, but it’s very intense and you have to be on top of your game every single lap. In my first full short track race at Lakeland (USA International Speedway), I had a blast, but there was no room to slouch. We need to keep our championship hopes alive all season long. If we can play a smart race while using a little bit of patience, we should be around for the last 50 laps. ”
