Jimmy “Bubba” Broderick, second-generation standout racer, added to his season’s tally of outstanding finishes with a victory Friday at Accord Speedway’s 1200 Mini-Sprint race before heading to Black Rock Speedway the next day, where he added a third- place finish to his total.
“The first couple of weeks, I’ve been like a Guinea pig for the Mini- Sprints with a Hayabusa, ” [engine] said Broderick, describing the engine problems that have plagued him. “So far it’s been doing the opposite of what everyone said. ” Engine failures took Broderick out of the first two races in the season. “Finally, it goes a whole race and I won. ”
Broderick’s preferred line is on the outside, a line that allowed him to open a straightaway-long lead on the field in long green flag runs.
The next day, Broderick and his crew towed to Black Rock Speedway for the track’s 20-lap Mini-Sprint feature. While the fastest car on the track much of the day, he got dropped back to third at the finish, thanks to bad timing of cautions. “We’ll take it, ” said Broderick. “Like any racer, we don’t like anything but a win, but we’ll just come back and try harder next time. ”
The next race on Broderick’s calendar is planned for Susquehanna, Pa. ’s Penn Can Speedway Friday night, starting off a full weekend of races that will swing through Whip City Speedway in Westfield, Ma. and end at Utica-Rome Speedway in Vernon, N.Y. on Sunday.
