Caylie Duncanson: “Went to Madison and I won the first race there that was cool”

In spite of becoming the first female racer to win a feature at Madison, Wisconsin, plus a double win at Rockford Speedway and a dominating win at 141 Speedway’s season opening event, Caylie Duncanson reports that her 2007 season was not up to her expectations.

The Kentucky test was a pretty good beginning of the season, ” said the sixth-grade Girl Scout. Then she “went to Madison and I won the first race there [as a female driver] – that was cool, ” she added. A later race at Madison saw her get crashed out and the car damaged with a bent axle: “that was a bummer, ” she said.

Another disappointment was her failure to qualify for the feature race in the Bandolero Nationals at Kentucky. There, she had to race her way into the feature but fell just one position short of the transfer after getting spun out and restarting from the back of the field.

One of the most unforgettable moments of her racing season was not a race where she drove, but one where she got to observe Andy Hillenburg’s crew as they worked on Bryan Silas’ car at Milwaukee. “Meeting Andy and Bryan was unforgettable, ” commented the young racer.

Her off-season activities have already included some pretty interesting days. She drove an Allison Legacy car in a test session a few weeks ago. “I really loved that. We were only a couple of tenths off” the track record. Shortly after the Legacy drive, she tested a Limited Late Model, telling her father: “you know, Dad, most people don’t experience this until they’re 16 and I got it at 11. ”

Off-season non racing plans include learning to shoot so that she can go hunting with her father this winter, and helping some friends with their snowmobile racing season.

Caylie is being helped in her career by training from Future Stars in Racing Academy. The Academy helps prepare young drivers for success outside the car in public speaking; sponsor presentations; working with the media and behavior on and off the track. Future Stars in Racing is the exclusive driver development partner with the ASA Late Model Series. Marketing partners include Safety-Kleen, Awesome Racewear and Sunbelt Web Solutions.
