It was a night of firsts in the Open Division, while the Junior Division put on a wild finish. The weather was beautiful this past Saturday night at Rockford Speedway as 33 Super Cups made the event. Several old cars were driven by new members of CSR. David Kast was in the former #48 of Brandon Scurto as Mason Madej piloted the #36 formerly of Alyssa Myers.
Rookie Jim Termanas #60 won his first pole position while usual top qualifier Jake Jump #2 had the most exciting run. During his qualifying lap, the hood on his car flew open, but he managed to finish the lap without wrecking. Jim Termanas went on to win his first ever heat race. Jake Jump, after securing the hood on his car, went on to win the second heat. The #60 of Jim Termanas may be the car to watch this season as he gains more experience.
In the Open Division feature race, Jeff Myers #18 started on the pole but David Cerer #7, who started on the outside front row, got a great jump and pulled ahead of Jeff to take the lead while Steve Dorko #24 followed in behind David. The three pulled ahead while a pack of cars battled 3 wide behind them. In the end, David Cerer was able to hold off any last lap charges and won his first ever feature race! However, the pack of cars behind them finally gave way on the last lap as Karl Turner #21 and Mick Ellis #31 got together and crashed going through the finish line.
The heat races for the Junior Division were both taken by first time victors. Toby Stewart #108 in the Chicago Indoor Racing Super Cup won the first heat while Jacob Van Wazer in the bright red and yellow #8 won the second. Toby, a Super Cup rookie, has come on strong and may be the car to watch in the Junior Division.
