A rookie season for any driver in the United States is bound to have ups and downs especially for a team that hasn’t driven in full bodied Late Models before. Especially when a driver had only been to one pavement track in his career. For Danny Ouderkirk, the 2006 season in the ASALMS Northern Division was a learning experience to say the least. His only pavement experience prior to 2006, was the I-70 (MO) Speedway.
Not a bad place to cut your teeth for sure. Nevertheless, despite following the full schedule of events within the ASALMS Northern Division and to tracks that he has never seen before, let alone raced on during the 2006 season, Ouderkirk continued to learn on the fly and his patience and absorbing information resulted in Ouderkirk finishing the year with a respectable 10th Place Finish Overall and Sixth in the Rookie Points in the ASALMS Northern Division.
Now Ouderkirk is looking ahead at his second year of ASALMS racing and what a busy Sophomore campaign it will be for the Lawson, Missouri driver; For the 2007 season, Ouderkirk and the Bob’s Collision Racing Team will run the full schedule of events in both the ASALMS Challenge and Northern Divisions for the upcoming Fifth Anniversary Season in the series “Where Champions Race”.
The first event for Ouderkirk and crew will be the 2nd annual Alamo 200 Presented by Express Lube on Friday and Saturday March 2-3, 2007 at the fast 0.500 Mile High-Banked Paved Oval of the San Antonio (TX) Speedway in San Antonio, Texas. The first race of the 2007 season for the crown jewel of the ASALMS, the Challenge Division.
San Antonio is one of the few tracks in his brief career where Ouderkirk does have experience! The 19-year-old made the trip to Texas for the 2006 ASALMS Southern Division Season Championships; The AT&T Texas All-Star Shootout Twin 75s Presented by Mercedes Homes on October 21, 2006. After finishing a disappointing 15th in the first 75-lap Feature, Ouderkirk rebounded with a solid eighth place showing in the nightcap
