Davey Johnson and DMB Motorsports entered the World of Outlaws Late Model Series sanctioned ‘First State 50’ at Delaware International Speedway on Thursday, May 31st. Johnson also debuted a new look at Challenger Raceway this past Sunday for the $5,000 to win, Independent Racing Series sanctioned ‘Mega Blitz’.
May 31st was a day to forget for Johnson. Davey blew a motor in time trials and went to a backup car for his heat. Johnson was battling for a transfer spot when a car spun in front of him clipping and flattening the right rear tire forcing Johnson to the B-Main. Davey finished second in the B-Main to transfer to the feature event. Johnson started the A-Main with damage remaining from the heat race. The damage was hindering the performance of Davey’s Lazer Chassis/Bernheisel Race Components/Advanced Development/Edge Racing Engines/Catoctin Development/Morrissey’s Meats Lazer Chassis GTO and he pulled off after 33 laps relegating him to a 16th place finish.
This past Sunday Johnson debuted a new paint scheme designed to resemble the ‘old’ #1J scheme’s Davey has ran in the past. The scheme is a little more modernized but has the familiar Black and Purple #1J on the side. After a pulling a high pill, Johnson would finish sixth in his heat race at Challenger Raceway forcing him to the B-Main. Johnson would fight his way to a second place finish in the ‘B’ putting him in the 50-lap man event. Johnson would never be a factor in the feature event coming home 15th.
Up next for Davey Johnson will be a pair of World of Outlaws Late Model Series events at Port Royal Speedway on Wednesday, June 20th and New Egypt Speedway on Thursday June 21st. After that the team will prepare for the first ever ‘Firecracker 100’ at Lernerville Speedway. The event will be the biggest Dirt Late Model event in Pennsylvania history and will be sanctioned by the World of Outlaws Late Model Series.
