Davey Johnson competed in the 31st Annual Winternationals sanctioned by the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series this past week in Gibsonton, FL in his DMB Motorsports Bernheisel Race Components, Edge Racing Engines, Morrissey’s Meats, D+R Trucking, Advanced Development Lazer Chassis G2, Pontiac GTO.
Johnson started the week of strong with a win in Monday night’s PRC Strawberry Dash. The win moved Johnson into the $5,000 to win A-Main event. Johnson fought an ill handling race car but survived to finish 22nd in the main event.
The rest of the week was not as kind to “The Juice†as Johnson could never really find the right combination for his Lazer G2 Chassis. Johnson had several strong runs in his preliminary events with two fourth place finishes, a fifth place finish, as well as two sixth place finishes in his heat races. With the amount of competition and low number of transfer positions (2 per Heat/B-Main), it was hard for any driver to qualify for an A-Main event.
A very optimistic Johnson and DMB Motorsports team will head back to Lebanon, PA, regroup, and get prepared for the rest of the 2007 season.
DMB Motorsports will release a tentative schedule for “The Juice†Davey Johnson in the coming weeks.
