NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series drivers David Gilliland and Ken Schrader have confirmed that they will compete in the NASCAR Grand National Division, West Series event at Infineon Raceway on Saturday, June 23.
Gilliland and Schrader are the first Cup Series drivers to confirm their entry in the Blue Lizard Suncream 200, presented by Supercuts.
Schrader, driver of the No. 21 Little Debbie/Motorcraft Ford, returns to West Series competition for the second consecutive year at Infineon Raceway. The long-time Cup Series driver started 16th and finished 18th in last year’s West Series event. He earned his only Infineon Raceway victory in the Southwest Series event in 1994.
Gilliland, who pilots the No. 38 M&Ms Ford on the NEXTEL Cup Series circuit, has never competed in a West Series event on the road course, but he did claim a Southwest Series victory at Infineon Raceway in 2004.
Gilliland made his Infineon Raceway NEXTEL Cup Series debut last year, where he qualified 31st and finished 32nd.
Gilliland’s father, Butch, is a long-time West Series competitor, although he will not compete at Infineon Raceway this year. Butch has claimed four West Series victories at Infineon Raceway (1994, 1996, 1997 (twice)).
