Dixie Speedway will officially open it’s 2007 Season on Saturday night, May 5. The date will mark the 39th time that the “Greatest Show on Dirt” has opened it’s annual “Every Saturday Night” Stock Car Racing season since doing so for the first time in 1969.

Some early special events have already been run like the World of Outlaw Sprint Cars, Spring Championships and the Monster Truck Races, but the track’s “Every Saturday Night” tradition is what Dixie is known for.

“We always try to start off with a few special events early in the season just to kind of get rolling before we get on “Every Saturday Night” which starts in May and ends in October, ” said Mike Swims VP and General Manager of the track.

“It’s all about Saturday night here at Dixie. Our fans and drivers look forward to it every weekend and so do we. This has been a family owned business that provides family entertainment for many years and it’s a formula that has been very successful, ” Swims added.

Dixie attracts from 120 – 140 race teams from all over the metro area and North Georgia each and every weekend that compete on the 3/8 mile dirt track for cash and points in order to crown a champion in each division by the end of the season. Most drivers are weekend warriors that own and operate businesses and work regular jobs Monday – Friday.
