Ohio dirt Late Model racer Doug Drown of Wooster, OH had a rough weekend two weeks ago but made amends this past weekend with an impressive feature win at Skyline Speedway in Stewart, OH and a top ten finish at Portsmouth Raceway Park in Portsmouth, OH as the talented driver got track time in anticipation of the Memorial Day weekend MACS sanctioned races at both tracks. Drown competed in his Wooster Glass Co., Mason Racin, Bert Transmissions, Genesis Racing Shocks, Hoosier Tire-Mid Atlantic, Hyperco, Wrisco, Lehman Motorsports Services, Farr Motorsports sponsored Rocket Chassis/Malcuit Racing Engines #12.
“It meant a lot to win at Skyline, we have been there a couple times a few years back and really didn’t do that great, ” commented Drown on his Friday night victory. “I know the track wasn’t it’s normal slick so that helped, but I feel I can run on a slick track also so we’ll hopefully be ready for what ever the track will be this weekend. ”
“The competition was great. Jason Montgomery is always tough and was right there, and the Bond boys are always tough at all those southern tacks, so I would say that everything just went our way that we were able to stay in front of those guys. I really was surprised to have even won to be honest, because we had brake problems all night long and finally got them working for the feature. ”
Drown made a return appearance to Portsmouth Raceway Park on Saturday where he finished a solid eighth in the season opening main event. Despite being a little disappointed Drown came away with track and chassis knowledge that will help him next weekend for the MACS race.
“Our night at Portsmouth was pretty good, ” explained Drown. “We ran strong in our heat finishing second after starting fifth. Then in the feature we were about the only ones running a different line then the bottom and were able to make it work somewhat. We went with the wrong tires plain and simple. We gambled at Skyline and things worked out for us, but gambling at Portsmouth we came out on the losing end. ”
Drown, who is competing for the 2007 Mid Atlantic Championship Series (MACS) title, swings back into MACS action over the Memorial Day weekend with nearly $100,000 prize money on the line that marks the kick-off to their 2007 season after being washed out last month at Rick Jones’ The Rock Allegany County Speedway.
MACS kicks of their ’07 season with a three-night swing at three tracks in two states beginning this Friday May 25 at Brent Steele’s Skyline Speedway, Stewart, OH. This marks the first ever appearance of MACS at the track. The event is dubbed the “Stars and Stripes 50” paying $5,000 to-win. Then on Saturday Drown and the MACS brigade marches to the Coleman Families Portsmouth Raceway Park, Portsmouth, OH where they will be offering a 50-lap $5,000 to win race before moving on to the Sunday May 27 stop at Dan Russell’s speed plant known as Central Pennsylvania Speedway, Clearfield, PA, for the third and final leg of the weekend.
“I don’t know what to expect for this coming weekend, all I know is that my crew and I will do everything we can to be prepared and to show up with the intentions of running to the best of our abilities against a tough field of cars, ” stated Drown. “Every week is different in racing and you never know who is going to be up front from night to night with the level of competition these days. All we can do is work hard during the week and make sure everything is ready to go. ”
The new “2007 Plum Crazy” Doug Drown T-Shirts produced by Slavic Custom Shorts & Decals are expected to be available this coming weekend. Look for details to be announced in the coming days.
Crewing for Doug Drown Racing in 2007 is crew chief Jeff Drown, Scott Delaney, Dan Drown, Jim Boreman, Scott Drown and Shane Hites.
In addition to the MACS schedule, Drown will also be competing in various special independent races in addition to selected races sanctioned by Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series, World of Outlaws, UMP, Sunoco ALMS and Independent Racing Series.
Doug, Courtney & Cale Drown will also soon be announcing the recipient of the 3rd Annual Cause For Care Racecar Show & Benefit that will again be held at the Wayne County Fairgrounds in Wooster, OH on Sunday July 22, 2007.
