Late Model Series: Eddie Hoffman Wins The Adam Petty Memorial / All-American 200 Aluminum Racing

The final race of the Fifth Anniversary 2007 season in the ASA Late Model Series Presented by GM Performance Parts is now complete. The famed Music City (TN) Motorplex, located within the Tennessee Sate Fairgrounds in Nashville, Tennessee served as hosts for the Adam Petty Memorial / All-American 200.

The fast 0.596 Mile High-Banked Paved Oval in the Volunteer State brought down the curtain on a very successful 2007 season for the Lexington, Michigan based series. A familiar race again showed in victory lane in Music City as Wheaton, Illinois veteran, Eddie Hoffman inherited the lead from Brian Campbell on Lap 149 after Campbell tangled with a lapped car.

Hoffman, a Three-Time Feature Winner in the ASALMS Northern Division in 2007 who also finished second in the final 2007 ASALMS Challenge Division Points Standings, then held off strong challenges from Two-Time ASALMS Challenge Division Feature Winner, Jacob Goede, to score his Fourth overall ASALMS Feature of the year and second consecutive triumph in the All-American 200 and another coveted Copley Guitar to take home.

The 47-year-old Prairie State veteran driving his familiar Red #8 Lisa Thomas Salon / Terrys.com / T. K. Racing / Ford Fusion has won three of the four ASALMS races held at the Music City Motorplex since the ASALMS first ever appearance back on March 18, 2006. In addition, Hoffman is the overall leader in all-time ASALMS Feature Wins in the five year history of the series.

“I just love coming here, we always seem to be pretty quick and we’ve always had good luck. “ Hoffman said in victory lane. “That was a bad deal with Brian (Campbell) and the lapped car. Then once we got the lead, I knew the 72 car (Jacob Goede) was behind me and I was a little worried about him! He’s so strong whenever he shows up, but we pulled it off. “ He added.

2007 Big 8 Late Model Series Champion, Jeremy Miller and Three-Time ASALMS Northern Division Feature Winner in 2007, Brian Campbell led the 34-car starting line-up, one of the strongest fields in ASALMS history, to Chief Starter, Tom Powell’s green flag to begin the door closer in the ASALMS for the 2007 season.

Miller edged out Campbell heading into Turn One to take the early lead while the rest of the strong field jockeyed for position. The first of nine cautions flew on Lap 10 when Ryan Carlson spun in turn three and collected 18-year-old Alec Carll, who earlier in the day clinched the 2007 ASALMS Challenge Division GM Performance Parts Shootout Championship by winning the Odd GMPP Shootout.

Even GMPP Shootout Winner, Chris Eggleston and Wes Griffith Jr., were also involved and only Eggleston was able to continue. On the restart, Miller jumped out to a sizable lead and that was negated by another caution on Lap 19 when Terry VanHaitsma and Peter Cozzolino collided in Turns 3-4.

As the green flag flew again, Miller wasn’t able to build up as big of a lead as he did previously as Campbell and a strong contingent of drivers trailed the Rockford, Illinois driver. At one point the Top Seven cars in line had accumulated 19 ASALMS Feature Wins during the 2007 season!

On Lap 64, ARP Bodies / Aluminum Racing Products Fast Qualifier, Derek Thorn and 19-year-old Travis Cope got together coming down the front stretch resulting in Thorn’s night ending early. Cope pitted several times under caution but would rejoin the field at the back of the pack.

All the while, Miller continued to pace the field as Eddie Hoffman slowly began his charge to the front and found himself in fourth position behind Campbell and 2007 ASALMS Challenge Division Champion, Travis Dassow.
