Formula One driver Mark Webber is keeping his mind focussed on next week’s Turkish Grand Prix, he has revealed.
The Australian has been the subject of a great deal of media hype since winning the last two grands prix.
But the Red Bull driver is not letting himself become distracted from the task in hand. Viagogo
During the month of May, Webber has won the Spanish Grand Prix and the Monaco Grand Prix, after starting on the pole and leading every lap in each one of those events. He has accumulated 50 points in the last two races, which has placed him into a tie with Red Bull teammate Sebastian Vettel in the F1 world championship standings.
“We have a very good foundation, and we’re in a good position,” Webber said. “We’ve got some different venues coming up, keep in mind that engines are going to come into play in the back part of the championship.
There are lots of things to roll into this situation yet. It’s a good position to be in, and I obviously would rather be here than forty points behind. We have a good tally at the moment, but I don’t think it’s between two guys, too early.” MiamiHerald.com
Lewis Hamilton believes McLaren will rise to the occasion and help him bring an end to his winless drought.
Although Hamilton has stated on a few occasions this season his car is the best he has driven, he has yet to taste victory, unlike team-mate Jenson Button who has won twice and failure to take the chequered flag in Turkey this weekend will see the 25-year-old equal his worst run in F1 of 10 races without a win.
“With all the different things that have happened, it has been a bit of a lottery for me,” said Hamilton. “But the spirits are still high within the team, and I know at the moment they want to win just as much as me.” The Press Association
Button has plummeted from first to fourth following Mark Webber’s back-to-back wins for Red Bull. He is also facing tough competition from second placed Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel and third, Ferarri’s Fernando Alonso.
“I can still be World Champion again. I am only eight points behind the leaders and given the new scoring system this year that is very close,” said Button.
“Things can change so quickly with just one result,” he added. Rediff
