Frank Kimmel maintains ARCA RE/MAX Series Lead With Salem (IND. ) Top-five Finish

Eight-time ARCA RE/MAX Series champion and four-time Kentucky Speedway race winner Frank Kimmel maintained his lead in the series standings with a second-place finish at Salem, Ind., Speedway Sept. 15. He placed one spot behind race winner Justin Allgaier and one spot ahead of Michael McDowell. McDowell, a rookie winner at Kentucky Speedway in July and Kimmel’s closest title rival, registered his series-leading 10th top-five finish of the season and gained 10 points on Kimmel. Kimmel now leads the standings by 140 points with two races remaining after generating three wins, nine top-five and a series-leading 15 top-10 finishes through 20 events this season.

Allgaier led a race-high 73 of 200 laps before charting his first win of 2007. He owns a total of four top-five and 11 top-10 finishes this season. He maintained the fourth position in the series standings. The series returns to action Oct. 5 at Talladega Superspeedway. Kimmel took a 2006 win at the track and restrictor-plate race series ace Bobby Gerhart started from the pole position.

The top-10 in the series standings are: Kimmel (Leader: 5,030 points, Ford), McDowell (Second: -140, Toyota), Dexter Bean (Third: -550, Chevrolet), Allgaier (Fourth: -695, Chevrolet), Phillip McGilton (Fifth: -840, Ford), Justin Marks (Sixth: -870, Dodge), Patrick Sheltra (Seventh: -1,005, Chevrolet), Justin South (Eighth: -1,035, Dodge), Bryan Silas (Ninth: -1,360, Chevrolet) and Josh Krug (10th: -1,395, Chevrolet).
