Cabarrus County is called the “Racing Side of Charlotteâ€, and the 29-event schedule at the half-mile Concord Motorsport Park covers an amazing cross-second of American motorsports.
With many short tracks scaling back, Concord has expanded the 2007 schedule in number of events and variety of competition offered at the track.
“We have the best NASCAR Whelan All-American Series stock car racers, truck and tractor pullers, modifieds, super late models, and even a car show on the schedule this year, †said David Laton, managing partner of the track.
It begins Saturday, March 24 with Opening Night for the Whelan All-American Series racers. The late model stocks will headline a majority of the programs with a variety of race formats.
On the 24th, the late model stocks will race for 75 laps; while limited late models (40-laps), pure stocks (30-laps) and fast and furious fours (20-laps) will be competing. Also, the sleek thunder roadsters will hit the half-mile tri-oval for 25 laps of action.
In preparation for opening night, the track will host a practice session on Sunday, March 18th from 1:30 until 4:00 p. m. Fans can get a sneak-peak at the cars with the grandstand open free of charge.
For those who can’t wait until opening night can get their racing “fix, †on Friday and Saturday, March 16 and 17 a pair of complete Legends and Bandoloro racing programs will be contested on the quarter-mile oval.
