It’s only fair that Country Joe Racing turns to James Buescher to kick off the second half of the 2007 ARCA RE/MAX Series season commencing with Saturday’s Request Foods-GFS 200.And for good reason.
Buescher, a native of Plano, Texas roared to life in the second race of the season at USA International Speedway. Having never seen the facility a few weeks prior to the Construct Corps-PBG 250, you never would have realized it without talking to the upcoming superstar.
In his first tryout with Country Joe Racing, Buescher unloaded strong with a solid sixth place effort in practice. In ARCA SIM Factory pole qualifying, Buescher stormed to the outside front row before taking the win in his ARCA debut.
Two days shy of his 17th birthday, Buescher etched his name into the ARCA record books by becoming the youngest winner in the 55 years of competition at the tender age of 16.
Buescher’s next venue occurred at Salem Speedway. The development driver survived the wreck fest and captured a solid sixth place effort after starting 17th, garnishing his second straight top-10. Now Buescher turns to the Western Michigan track of Berlin Raceway for his third consecutive top-10 finish.
“I can’t wait for this weekend, ” offered Buescher. “The win at Lakeland (USA International Speedway) is still fresh in my memory. It was a day I won’t soon forget and I’m looking forward to hopefully doing it again this weekend. ”
Should Buescher score the victory in the 12th race of the season, he will become the third driver this season to win more than one race joining NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series icons Erik Darnell and Chad McCumbee in that group.
“There’s no doubt in my mind that we don’t have a shot at victory lane this weekend, ” Buescher said. “The difference between Lakeland and Berlin though, is I’ve never had the opportunity to race or even see Berlin. When we go out and practice, I will be turning my first laps ever. Hopefully I can learn the track quickly and we can keep the No. 32 Country Joe Racing Dodge a threat from start to finish. ”
