Barry Klinedinst Motorsports and 2006 Mid-Atlantic Championship Series (MACS) Champion Jason Covert didn’t have to travel very far this past Saturday to race against some of the best in the business as the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series came to Hagerstown Speedway for the $10,000 to win, ‘Stanley Schetrompf Classic’.
Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series officials made the decision to skip qualifying and go with a pill draw to set the lineups for the six heat races as rain earlier in the day delayed the start of the event. Series officials used passing points to transfer racers from the heat races to the A-Main. Covert finished 3rd in his heat but did not acquire enough passing points to transfer to the feature event. Despite not transferring through the heat, Covert would put his Pre-Mach, Inc. /Red Wing Shoes/Hershey’s Racing Engines/Baker Carburetion/Bam’s Auto Center/Kuppy’s Diner/Rocket Chassis Monte Carlo into the “A” by virtue of his win in the second of two B-Main events.
The 2006 MACS Champion would start in the 18th spot and slowly picked his way through the field, “The car was good early but after a caution around the 20th lap my American Racer Tires really kicked in, ” Covert said about his march through the field. “I mean, I could run high, low, or the middle. The car was the best it has been all year so far. ” Covert would finish the 50-Lap feature in the 3rd spot behind Scott James and Steve Casebolt. “Scott (James) really pulled away there at the end and Steve (Casebolt) is always tough. We are extremely happy with 3rd place but even more excited that the car is finally getting to where it needs to be. ”
