Joey Kramer Leads All 25 Laps in Annual Mod Squad Bash For NARA Battle Bluegrass Modified Series

Joey Kramer of Hanover, IN would lead all 25 laps in capturing the 7th Annual Mod Squad Bash for the NARA Battle of the Bluegrass Modified Series on Saturday night at Bluegrass Speedway. Kramer’s win came aboard the Hill’s Historic Painting/PBM Performance Products/Fall Creek Financial/ All Star Performance/Bright Beginnings Day Care sponsored #77 Lightning Chassis, Bullock by Kramer Race Engines powered entry

Russ Gabbert and Joey Kramer would lead the starting field to the green flag at the start of the NARA Battle of the Bluegrass Modified Series A-Main, with Kramer taking the lead, followed by Gabbert, Timmy York, Brandon Green, and Benji Lee. Lee would move to second on lap 3, with Dustin Linville taking fifth one lap later. By lap 5, Kramer and Gabbert were pulling away a bit while 12th starting Jason Wheatley was charging through the field as Lee, Linville, and Wheatley would go three wide on lap 6, with Wheatley coming out in fourth and Lee fifth.

Caution would fly on lap 7 as Linville would roll to stop on the track with a flat left front tire. The Delaware double-file restart would see York grab second from Gabbert, with Series points leader Dennis Roberson grabbing fifth. Gabbert would retake second from York one trip later on lap 8.

The second and final caution of the event would wave on lap 10 as Jay Mobley contacted the concrete wall in turn three, with Linville and Dion Benningfield also involved, with Mobley and Linville being finished for the night. The restart would see Kramer and Gabbert pull away quickly, while Lee and Wheatley would begin a side-by-side battle for third. Wheatley would take third on lap 12, only to have Lee reclaim the spot on lap 13. The duo would battle door-to-door for the next three circuits, with Wheatley grabbing the spot for good on lap 17.

Meanwhile at the front, Gabbert would begin to slowly reel in race leader Kramer and would close up to about three car lengths from Kramer, but Gabbert would run out of laps as the two-time and defending “BoB Mod Squad” champion take the checkered flag first. Gabbert would settle for runner-up honors, while Wheatley, Lee, and Roberson would round out the top five. Completing the top ten was 14th starting Trent Young, York, 20th starting Josh Lucas, Don Adams, and J. T. Ayers.

Thirty-nine entries saw Brandon Green set fast time with a 17.625 second lap. Heat wins were captured by Gabbert, Freddy Garmon, Kramer, and York. Jimmy Payne and Trent Young were the B-main winners. Series provisionals went to Kelly Warren and Josh Lucas, while Dion Benningfield was the track provisional.
