Watkinsville’s young racer, John Wes Townley, coming off a dreary weekend at Toledo’s ASA Late Model Series race, is already looking forward to his NASCAR Busch East series debut.
Running at Greenville-Pickens Speedway in the series’ opening race for 2006, Townley hopes to have a better day than he suffered through at Toledo’s Glass Breaker 200. “Practice went alright, ” he said. “The line is a lot different than the usual race track, ” but in spite of that, he adapted quickly to a new track. “”Everything started to go well for us – coming to the white flag, in turns Three and Four, I got on the gas and unfortunately it came out from under us and backed into the wall, ” he said in describing his qualifying run. The crash sent him into his backup car and a 27th-place start.
