Josh Butler drove his Allison Legacy Series No. 11 Conterra Ultra Broadband/Horizon Technologies Monte Carlo to a carefully aggressive third place finish Saturday at Dillon Motor Speedway’s inaugural race.
Butler placed fifth in the season-opening race at Orange County Speedway, then had an even stronger finish at Dillon’s new track, qualifying seventh and steadily moving up through the cars ahead of him until the final pass for position approaching the white flag.
“We felt that we were able to be competitive with the front-running cars, ” said Butler. “We knew Brandon McReynolds was obviously the front-runner and Ryan Glenski was another real fast car.
“We qualified eighth, and we really felt that I could have gotten a better run, but sometimes, that’s how it goes, ” he added. “We took that and just threw some changes at it for the race and I just stayed patient the whole time. ”
The patience was needed, as several spins and crashes slowed the race, including a red flag for Andrew Belmont’s hard crash into the front straight wall. Belmont was reported to be transported to a local hospital with a broken leg but is expected to make a complete recovery.
