Keith Barbara and Forbes Field Motorsports were in action this past Saturday, but not in their familiar black and white #17. Keith was asked to sub for National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame member Lynn Geisler at Pittsburgh’s PA Motor Speedway as Geisler was attending his niece’s wedding.
Keith’s night subbing for Geisler got off to a rough start after two cars spun ahead of him leaving Barbara nowhere to go. Keith made contact with one of the cars bending the front clip pretty severely. The ‘Geisler Gang’ as well as the Forbes Field Motorsports team worked together to get a new front end on the #1 Cochran Automotive/Marshall Stamping/Groff Tractor & Equipment Inc. /Tri-State Hose & Supply/Bolea Oil/Hoosier Race Tire/Rocket Chassis GTO in time for the feature event.
By virtue of the accident in the heat, Keith had to start at the tail of the 20-car field. Barbara used the low line during the 25-lap A-Main to work his way up to a fourth place finish behind race winner Lou Bradich, Dennis Niederriter, and Steve Baker. “It was fun driving for Lynn this weekend, ” Keith stated. “I felt bad about bending it up in the heat but that’s the way things goes sometimes. I’m glad we were able to get a good finish to keep Lynn on top of the point standings. I’ve watched Lynn race my whole life and to actually get to drive his car was a thrill. He’s a great guy, I hope we can work together again in the future. ”
The team is expected to have their motor back this week in enough time to get their family owned Triangle Benefits Services/Potoka Trucking/Forbes Field Garage/RanGroup Racing Tours/Rocket Chassis GTO ready to go for Lernerville Speedway’s regular show this Friday night to prepare for the World of Outlaws Late Model Series sanctioned ‘Firecracker 100’ paying $30,000 to win that will take place on June 29 & 30. Saturday’s plans will most likely lead them to Pittsburgh’s PA Motor Speedway.
