The Short Track Trucks.com Challenge Series is set to go for the 2007 Racing Season. Since 2004 one driver has sat on top. Joey Shuryan is the Three-Time Defending Champion in the full bodied Trucks series and will return once again in 2007 to defend his crown.
One driver who hopes to end the reign of terror that Shuryan has on the STT.Com Challenge Series field is Keith Wioncek. Finishing second in the points standings behind Shuryan in two of the past three seasons, Keith Wioncek and his K. V.R. Racing Team will be looking to dethrone the reigning champion with a full run for the 2007 Short Track Trucks.com Challenge Series Championship.
“Joey is a good friend and a great driver. We hope to be more competition for him this year. We hope to make him sweat a little this year? Stated Wioncek. “Adapting to different tracks every week is what sets the STT series apart from other series’ and we enjoy, even welcome the challenge! ” Wioncek added as his K. V.R. Racing Team continues to prepare for the 2007 Season Opener at the Angola (IN) Motor Speedway, which is set for Saturday May 12, 2007.
“In the STT series, you’re not just driving the same track every week and racing the other drivers, you’re racing against the track too. It definitely keeps you on your toes. Our goal is as many Top Three’s as we can get. ” Wioncek continued. “Wins are great but we proved last year, with only one win and taking second in championship points, that consistency is what it will take. We feel the championship is attainable this year if we stay focused and take it one race at a time. ” He added.
During the 2006 season Wioncek steered his Dodge Ram Pick-Up Truck to obtain a second place finish in the final Points Standings. The 39-year-old picked up One Feature Win, which came during the Series’ Season Championships at the Dixie (MI) Motor Speedway on September 8, 2006.
Wioncek also set fast time twice during the season with both Fast Qualifier Awards coming at the fast 0.400 Mile High-Banked D-Shaped Oval in Birch Run, Michigan. Overall in 2006, Wioncek recorded One Feature Win, Seven Top Fives and Nine Top 10 finishes in the 11 events within the Short Track Trucks.com Challenge Series Schedule.
Originally from Leonard, Michigan, but now calling Richmond, Michigan home, Wioncek began his career racing BMX Bikes before spending 16 seasons as an accomplished Motocross Racer achieving multiple Wins and Top 10 Finishes. Prior to the formation of the Short Track Trucks.com Challenge Series in 2003, Wioncek gained experience in the now defunct American Race Truck Series as he competed in Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, Indiana and Canada before moving into the full size Trucks.
His Rookie season in 2003 saw Wioncek finish fourth in his inaugural year with Nine Top Five Finishes including a career high at the time, a second place showing at the Mottville (MI) Speedway. In 2004, Wioncek won his first ever STT.Com Series Feature at the Sandusky (OH) Speedway while finishing a solid second place in the final Points Standings.
2005 saw the Richmond, Michigan driver debut a new K. V.R. Racing Truck that was built in house and in turn, Wioncek collected Three Feature Wins with those coming at the Dixie (MI) Motor Speedway, Spartan (MI) Speedway, and the Sandusky (OH) Speedway to go with Seven Top Five finishes and an impressive Four Fast Qualifier Awards en route to finishing fourth in the final points standings. He also took home the series Most Improved Driver Award for his efforts.
Wioncek will carry sponsorship on the side of his Dodge Ram Truck from Mancini Racing as well as Ray’s Radiator, Dura Cube, St. Clair Engines, Godfather Transmissions, Lakeland Water Systems, Erie Water Treatment Systems, R.A. T.H. Home Repairs, and M. P.H. Promotions.
The hard working crew consists of Keith’s wife as well as Roger Lemke and Bill Stolzenfeld.
