Lewis Hamilton cradled a diamond-studded helmet on Thursday (May 15) and recast himself as Formula 1’s “King of Bling”.

“Bling bling, I love it, “ he said after showing off the sparkling helmets that he and team mate Heikki Kovalainen will wear at the Monaco GP on May 24.

“Diamonds are beautiful things, “ he added. “I’m always racing but sometimes you get some of the nice quirks and bonuses and I guess this is it. “

The presentation certainly put more of a smile on his face than his sponsor appearance in Turkey on May 8, where he had to descend uncomfortably from the sky in his race overalls in the role of Apollo

Each helmet has the driver’s signature traced out with hundreds of gems and was created by diamond company and McLaren sponsor Steinmetz.
