Sixteen-year-old Matthew Stover opened his Winter Heat racing season at Lowe’s Motor Speedway with a strong fourth- place finish in the Pro Legends Car class Saturday.
Driving his No. 26 Stover Custom Construction/BB&T Legends car, Stover started the season with a good practice session, reporting that the car’s handling was “pretty good. ”
In spite of the good handling car, the weather was so cold that “we couldn’t judge how we’d do, ” when the day warmed up. The handling edge came in handy in Heat One, when “we drew a 141 and had to start last. ” The second heat saw Stover start in the first position, going on to win that heat.
His Feature race saw him start third. “The car was OK, but everybody is Pro is so evenly matched and hard to pass, ” he reports on the class. He went on to finish fourth in the feature, commenting: “it was a pretty good day.
“We’ll have to come back next week and see how we can do, ” he concluded. Stover’s next race is this Saturday, again on the fifth- mile track at Lowe’s Motor Speedway.
