Cole Miktuk is headed for a busy summer for a teenager. Not the usual summer job, but a schedule of races that will see him towing his Late Model Super Truck to tracks in North and South Carolina, plus more.
“We’ve been going back and forth between Florence and Caraway, ” he said, describing the early part of his race season. “At Caraway they have two 35-lap races in one night, ” described Miktuk. “In the first one, I qualified fourth but at Caraway they take the top six and draw a number and that’s where they start, so I started fifth. ”
After an eventful race that saw him barely avoid a crash at the start, he finished in eighth, with a damaged front end on the truck. The second race saw him start on the pole, thanks to another inversion draw. A good start kept him in the lead for about half the race before handling problems from the first race damage. After a close race, he finished third, as trucks with less damage got around him. “I was still pretty happy with that, in only my second race on the track, ” he said.
