Coming off his first career Sprint Cup Series victory Saturday in the rain shortened Coca-Cola 600 at Lowe’s Motor Speedway, David Reutimann was fastest in qualifying Friday at Dover for Sunday’s Autism Speaks 400.

Reutimann toured the 1-mile oval at Dover in 22.960 seconds (156.794 mph). It was Reutimann’s third career pole in 76 Sprint Cup Series events.

“We unloaded and felt like the car was pretty good and made some small adjustments to it as the course of practice went on and in the end I was actually a little concerned about it if it was going to be fast enough because the car got pretty tight compared to what we had in our practice run,” Reutimann said. Kasey Kahne was second and Juan Pablo Montoya qualified third. Reed Sorenson and Greg Biffle round out the top five.

Kahne used a new Dodge engine in the No. 9 to catapult him to his best start of the season.

“I can really tell the difference,” Kahne said. “The new engine is something that we’ve needed and I think that it’s going to be really good with cars around me as well.” The Associated Press
