Patrick Molesworth: “I’m just going out there to have fun and finish well”

Patrick Molesworth’s day at Hickory Motor Speedway couldn’t get off to a worse start. Molesworth began the day with a car that would not start, but turned a frustrating beginning into a top 12 finish in his number 47 Late Model stock car.

Shortly before practice, Molesworth’s car experienced electrical problems with the coils, leaving the car unable to drive during qualifying. Earlier in the week, Molesworth team changed the fuel filters and lines in the engine. The problem was recognized and fixed minutes before the feature race started. Molesworth started the 50 lap race in the 16th position. The race went without caution, and Molesworth raced his way to finish 12th.

“We really had a rough day, ” Molesworth said. “We’ll have them, it happens, that’s racing, ” Molesworth added.

Molesworth’s next race will be at Lowe’s Motor Speedway as part of the second week of the Summer Shootout Series. Molesworth is in his second full season of the Summer Shootout and is already having a good time.

“I’m just going out there to have fun and finish well, ” Molesworth said. “The competition is so close and so great. It’s an excellent race for fans and drivers, ” Molesworth added.

In that second Summer Shootout event, Molesworth raced into the feature race through the B-Main, where oil in the outside groove led him to take it easy and run to a steady fourth-place finish. The top-five B-Main finish placed him in the feature race for the Pro class, starting 25th. “We worked our way up to 11th, ” he reported. “With oil in the track I just took it easy. A lot of cars wrecked and I capitalized on their mistakes. ” Molesworth finished eleventh, while his brother Duncan finished second.

“I’m really looking forward to next week, ” added Molesworth, pointing out that their planned return to Hickory Motor Speedway will be delayed while the engine problems both brothers have had in their Late Model cars are corrected.
