Rick Schaffer Teams Up With Norm Hansell For 2007 NASCAR Modified Season At Grandview Speedway

Veteran stock car racer Rick Schaffer, one of the most respected racers ever to compete at Grandview Speedway, has signed to drive the Norm’s Save Station No. 357 NASCAR Modified stock car for the 2007 season.

Schaffer, considered by many to be the Dean of Modified racers at the one-third-mile, banked clay oval, will have a Bicknell chassis powered by a Doug Meyers Ford. The car will be owned by veteran car owner Norm Hansell who has had some top talent drive his race cars over the years.

Going into the 2006 season Schaffer was tied with six time track NASCAR Modified champion Craig VonDohren for most career wins. Each had 51 wins. However Schaffer was not able to gain a feature win during the season and VonDohren had a tremendous season ending up with 55 career wins and taking the top spot.

Rick Schaffer will be out to win a few and get back the number one spot in career wins. Along the way he may even be able to grab a track NASCAR Modified championship, something that has eluded him during his long career.

The Woxall, PA racer will be in action when the 45th consecutive season of stock car racing gets the green flag on Saturday, April 7th at Grandview Speedway. The doubleheader show, featuring the NASCAR Modifieds and Late Models, will get the green at 7 p. m. A 40-lap championshp feature will top the opening night action.

There will be plenty of competition for Schaffer as he goes up against veterans such as Ray Swinehart, Doug Manmiller, John Tschudy, Bobby Gunther Walsh, John Willman, Terry Meitzler, Donny Erb, Cliff Quinn, Kerry Kratz, Shawn Reimert and others. And there will be the “young lions” such as Mike Gular, Danny Erb, Todd Smith, Brad Missimer, Sean Merkel and a number of other rising stars.

Many of the Modified and Late Model talents will be testing their racing equipment on Saturday, March 31st, 12 noon as part of the “free-to-the-public” practice session. A variety of different types of racecars will be part of the afternoon testing sessions.

NASCAR stock car racing action will be the attraction at the Berks County oval each Saturday night through the end of September. There is a number of Saturday nights that will include added attractions.
