The ASA Late Model Series Southern Division Presented by GM Performance Parts is gearing up towards the 2007 Season opener at the Bronson (FL) Motor Speedway, located West of Gainesville in Bronson, Florida on Friday and Saturday March 16-17, 2007 for the running of the Gator 100.
Drivers from all walks of life have made their way to the ASALMS over the years. The series “Where Champions Race” without question, boasts some of the most diverse fields of drivers you will see throughout all three divisions within the ASALMS. Another driver has thrown his hat into the ASALMS Rookie of the Year title chase in the ASALMS Southern Division and looks to be one of the top freshman in a stout rookie class in 2007.
For the 2007 season, Suncoast Motorsports with St. Petersburg, Florida freshman, Ron Partelo behind the wheel, will run for the Rookie of the Year honors within the ASALMS Southern Division for the Fifth Anniversary Season. Partelo and the Suncoast team also expect to challenge for the 2007 ASALMS Southern Division Championship and perhaps follow in the footsteps of reigning ASALMS Southern Division Champion and Rookie of the Year, James Buescher.
“I wanted to find a series that was run professionally and that’s where ASALMS came in. “ Stated Suncoast Motorsports Owner, Ron Summers. “As a car owner it was a perfect fit. The crate engine made sense to me because everyone should be on the same playing field. That puts it in the car set up and the young man holding the steering wheel. “ He added.
Partelo and Suncoast Motorsports have been together as owner and driver since 1994. Partelo drove an open wheeled Modified at Sunshine (FL) Speedway for half the season that year. In 1995 and armed with a new Dave Pletcher built Modified, Partelo ran the Southern Automobile Racing Association (SARA) Modifieds Series and won Three Features en route to the Rookie of the Year title. A year later, Partelo won the SARA Series Championships with Seven Feature wins and Eight Fast Qualifier Awards.
