Some hate Salem. Some love Salem. For ARCA RE/MAX Series (ARS) Rookie-of-the-Year candidate Bryan Silas, he can’t wait for the green flag to fly for Sunday’s The Kentuckiana Ford Dealers ARCA 200 by Federated Auto Parts.
The Stuart, Florida native has participated in several private test sessions to prepare the Fast Track Racing protégé for the typical race characteristics that Salem Speedway usually provides.
“I am so excited I can’t stand myself, ” said Silas, who will drive a Chevrolet Monte Carlo this weekend. “We’ve done a lot of testing here. A lot. The more I’m on the track, the more comfortable I get and our lap times improve, so it’s a great situation. ”
With the guidance of two-time ARCA RE/MAX Series champion Andy Hillenburg and veteran crew chief Dave McClure on his side, Silas knows he’s in good hands. “My team sat on the pole here in 2005 with Chad McCumbee. Chad is racing this weekend and he’s going to be here to try and defend that title, but I think we have a shot at it as well. I’m surrounded by great people and I have some great equipment, we’re looking for a stellar run on Sunday. ”
The team looks to bounce back from a disappointing finish at Nashville Superspeedway two weeks ago where Silas was maneuvering his Ford Fusion through the tough field before the engine seized putting the team out of the event.
“Nashville was tough, but you are going to have races like that, ” Silas added. “We are ready for redemption and what better way to charge back then with a good finish at Salem Speedway. ”
