18-year-old ASALMS Alumni, Landon Cassill to make his ARCA Re/Max Series and NASCAR Busch Series debuts in back to back weekends for Hendrick Motorsports.
Lexington, Michigan (07/11/2007): The ASA Late Model Series Presented by GM Performance Parts is extremely proud of its’ alumni that are doing so well in the upper echelon of the Auto Racing ranks. Two drivers have stood out and have made the ASALMS proud in recent weeks.
NASCAR Busch Series Driver and 2005 ASALMS Challenge Division Champion, Stephen Leicht, driving the #90 Citi Financial/Ford Fusion for Robert Yates Racing, recently won his first career Feature in the NASCAR ranks. The Asheville, North Carolina 20-year-old won the Feature in the Meijer 300 Presented by Oreo at the Kentucky (KY) Speedway on June 16, 2007 and currently sits Ninth in the NASCAR Busch Series Points Standings that is top heavy with NASCAR Nextel Cup drivers!
2006 ASALMS Challenge Division Champion and Pat Bourdow Memorial Rookie of the Year, 22-year-old Kelly Bires is now running side by side with Leicht for the rest of the season in the NASCAR Busch Series. The Mauston, Wisconsin driver, who has spent time this year in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series took over the #47 Clorox/American Red Cross/Ford Fusion for Wood Brothers JTG Racing, that was previously driven by Jon Wood, for the remainder of the season.
Now the ASALMS has a third driver that has climbed up the ladder and will be racing side by side and trading paint once again with Leicht and Bires, bringing back some great memories for fans of the ASALMS and in turn, will start showing the racing world what the ASALMS contingent already knew; That Hendrick Motorsports Development Driver, Landon Cassill is a rising star and is now ready to take on the best that the world of NASCAR has to offer!
After making his ARCA Re/Max Series debut this Friday July 13, 2007 at the Kentucky (KY) Speedway in the WLWT Channel 5-150, Cassill will follow up his ARCA Debut with his first two NASCAR Busch Series events of his career driving the #24 National Guard Chevrolet Monte Carlo that’s been driven for most of the season by NASCAR Nextel Cup pilot, Casey Mears.
The now 18-year-old Cassill will make his NASCAR Busch Series debut at the Gateway (IL) International Raceway in Madison, Illinois for the Gateway 250 on Saturday July 21, 2007. Then the following week, Cassill will make his second NASCAR Busch Series start at a track very familiar to the Fairfax, Iowa star; The O’Reilly (IN) Raceway Park at Indianapolis in Clermont, Indiana on Saturday July 28, 2007 in the running of the Kroger 200.
