Orrville, OH
Jun 08, 2007
When race fans attend the 12th Annual Pete Jacobs Memorial presented by Federated Auto Parts, part of the prestigious 25th Annual UNOH Ohio Sprint Speedweek presented by RacingJunk.com at Federated Auto Parts Wayne County Speedway in Orrville, OH on Monday June 25 they will be entertained by two headline divisions. Joining the powerful & mighty outlaw winged Sprint Cars of the All Star Circuit of Champions on that night will be the Super Late Models featuring some of the region’s best drivers of these fire-breathing, ground-pounding race cars.
“The race track has been closed since a fire on Saturday April 21 destroyed the concession stand and the electrical system and this race is our return to operation and we want to do it in a big way,” explained Ernie Coffman, owner & promoter of Federated Auto Parts Wayne County Speedway. “By offering the popular Super Late Models on the billing that night will give our race fans more bang for their buck.”
Management expects some of the top drivers in Ohio and surrounding region to attend. “When you look at some of the top drivers and teams out there that will likely be at Federated Auto Parts Wayne County Speedway for the Ohio Sprint Speedweek race it has to make race fans mighty happy,” added Chuck Griffith, general manager of the track. “With drivers like Doug Drown, Ryan Markham, Rick Bond, J.R. Gentry, our defending track champion Jason Flory, George Lee, Eric ‘Spud’ Myers, Trevor Phillips, Jeff Esbenshade and so many others, we have the makings of a homerun. Add into the mix drivers from outside the region who are available on a Monday night, coupled with the All Stars’ top Sprint Car teams, and this will be quite a night of racing.”
The All Star Circuit of Champions Sprint Cars will be racing for $5,000 to win while the Super Late Models will be competing for a $2,000 first place prize.
Despite the loss of the concession building management is making provisions for concessions to be provided. After the 12th Annual Pete Jacobs Memorial presented by Federated Auto Parts race is held construction on a new concession building will begin.
Management also disputes the rumors that the track has been sold and it remains under the ownership of Ernie Coffman and family. Additional race dates at Federated Auto Parts Wayne County Speedway will be announced after the 12th Annual Pete Jacobs Memorial presented by Federated Auto Parts.
In addition to an action-packed evening of quality racing the 3rd Annual Wayne County Speedway Hall of Fame induction ceremony will be held during the 12th Annual Pete Jacobs Memorial presented by Federated Auto Parts, the eve of the 42nd anniversary of the track’s opening. The track, founded by N. E. ‘Pete’ Jacobs, first opened on June 26, 1965.
Inductees in the Class of 2007 include drivers Keith Berner, Dave Haven, Sr., Tom Jarrett, Rusty McClure, George Prosser, John ‘Doc’ Simmons, Joe Thompson and Lloyd Wirt. In the Car Owner category Tom Green was selected while the late Jim Lehr and the late Clyde Shoup were chosen in the staff category. Selected for the fan category was George Stephenson.
The 25th Annual UNOH Ohio Sprint Speedweek presented by RacingJunk.com will once again travel to seven dirt tracks in seven nights in Ohio beginning at the end of June and the tour stops on night two at Federated Auto Parts Wayne County Speedway in Orrville, OH featuring some of the top Sprint Car stars in the nation.
