Super Late Models Vying For Over $6000 at Dixie Speedway



Super Late Models will be vying for over $6000 possible to win at this weekend’s events at Dixie Speedway in Woodstock, GA and Rome Speedway in Rome, Georgia.

The action kicks off Saturday night, June 9th at Dixie Speedway in Woodstock, Georgia featuring a Super Late Model Vs Limited Late Model Challenge. For the first time ever the top five finishers from the Super Late Model division along with the top five finishers from the Limited Late Model division will compete in a 15 lap race for a $600 winner’s purse plus $100 per car passing bonus and the field will start completely inverted. In addition, fans will see a full stock car racing program including a 30 lap Super Late Model feature along with the Limited Late Models, Sportsman, Super and Econo Bombers and Cruisers. Bicycle Races for the kids are also on schedule with trophies to the winners in each age category. Participants must have adult consent along with a helmet and bicycle in order to participant in a single lap race around the track.

Gates open at 5 PM with racing at 7:30 PM. Adult grandstand admission is $13 with 9 – 17 year old only $6 and 8 years old and under free. Trackside / Tailgate tickets are $16 per adult with children 11 years old and under $11 each. Pit Passes are $21 with children 11 years and under $11. A $3 grandstand discount will be allowed with any adult ticket stub from June 2, 2007.

Then on Sunday night, June 10th the action moves to Rome Speedway in Rome, Georgia for the headlining event the Advance Auto Parts Thunder Series Super Late Model Championship paying $3000 to win.

It will be race number nine on the 2007 circuit which includes fourteen racetracks and six states. Formerly the Tennessee Thunder DirtCar Series, the east Tennessee based series has become more of a regional tour since signing Advance Auto Parts last year, a fortune 500 company, based in Roanoke, Virginia as its title sponsor.

There have been seven different winners so far through the first eight events this season. The only repeat winner so far has been Jimmy Owens of Newport, TN who has claimed victories at Tazewell, TN on March 18th and Wythe, VA on May 19th. Other winners include two-time Thunder Series Champion Anthony White of Clinton, TN who claimed the season opener at North Georgia Speedway in Chatsworth, GA on March 10th, Ricky Weeks of Rutherfordton, NC won at Toccoa, GA on March 31st, David Payne of Murphy, NC won at Crossville, TN on April 28th, Ronnie Johnson of Chattanooga, TN won the second North Georgia event on May 12th, Benji Cole of Martin, GA claimed the Tri-County Racetrack win in Brasstown, NC on May 26th and the most recent winner is Todd Morrow of Cleveland, TN who claimed the win at Mountain Raceway in Maryville, TN on June 2nd.

The 2007 points chase has really shaped up to be a great battle. Tommy Kerr of Maryville, TN has led the chase for most of the season and padded his lead with a strong fifth place finish at his hometown track, Mountain Raceway, this past weekend. Rick Rogers is 88 markers back in second with Tommy Bailey of Corbin, KY holding down third, 101 markers back and also leads the Rookie Chase. Anthony White is currently fourth 172 markers out of first place. David Payne is 101 points behind White in fifth. Sixth through tenth place in points include Kayne Hickman of Soddy Daisy, TN, Dan Tipton of Kingston, TN, Randy Weaver of Crossville, TN, Richard Smith of Science Hill, KY and Stacy Boles of Claxton, TN. Rome Speedway’s local heroes will also be in contention including current points leader Tim Day and Memorial Day weekend winner Rodney Martin, plus many more.

In addition to the Advance Auto Parts Thunder Series, a full stock car racing program in on schedule featuring Limited Late models, Sportsman, Super Bomber, Econo Bomber, Cruisers, and Pony Stocks

Pit gates will open at 4 PM with grandstand gates opening at 5 PM and racing at 7:30 PM. Adult grandstand admission is $17 with youth 9 – 17 only $6 and kids 8 and under free. Trackside parking is $20 per adult. Pit Passes are $25 per adult and $11 per child 11 years old and under
