If you asked sophomore ARCA RE/MAX Series driver Dexter Bean which race he is most looking forward to this season, a rough yet fast Salem Speedway ranks high on his list. And for good reason.
Last September, Bean burst into the spotlight in the ARS (ARCA RE/MAX Series) after grabbing the ARCA pole award in last September’s Eddie Gilstrap Motors ARCA Fall Classic by Advance Auto Parts. Bean took control of the event leading from the pole and a career high 64 laps before finishing a solid 11th.
Now, Bean has had time to reflect on that historical night and aims for even sweeter results Sunday.
“I can’t wait to get back to Salem, ” said Dexter Bean, driver of the No. 6 Five Star Telecom Chevrolet Monte Carlo. “Salem will always hold special memories not only for myself but for my team too. We had a good car in both events last year; just unfortunately we were involved in the “big one” in the spring event which took us from potentially collecting our first victory. This weekend, we look to finish what we started in both events and prepare for a huge celebration in victory lane. ”
The BlackJack Racing team strolls into the second short track event of the season on the heels of a thrilling ninth place finish at Nashville Superspeedway two weeks ago. After starting 24th, Bean catapulted his machine through the field to edge eight time ARS champion Frank Kimmel for the top-10 position. The eighth top-10 finish of the team’s career put the team back on the momentum train with a huge side of confidence rolling into the first of two events at the historic half-mile oval this season.
“Nashville was a good event for us, ” continued Bean, who spent his ARCA off weekend competing in the season opener for the Wisconsin Challenge Series (WCS). “We had a great car and we were able to put our season back on track. Hopefully the bad luck is out of the way for now and we can continue to gain points and post good finishes. ”
