Top- Five Finish At Season Opener Vaults St. Amant To Third In Standings

South Boston, Va.
Apr 17, 2007

Short-track legend Gary St. Amant wheeled his No. 7 JEGS.com/Speedco Chevrolet Monte Carlo to a fifth-place finish at the USAR (United Speed Alliance Racing) Hooters Pro Cup Series Farmer’s Foods 500 Saturday night at South Boston Speedway. The strong showing by the former two-time world champion slotted him third overall in the Northern Division championship points after one race.

St. Amant wasn’t one of the four drivers to lead the race as it unfolded but he did manage to hang around round near the top of the grid all evening. The race was interrupted by slight sprinkles on two occasions and there were nine other caution periods brought on by accidents, none of which included St. Amant.
