Tough MACS Weekend For Jim Bernheisel Regroups At Hagerstown

Jim’s Labor Day weekend started off with a disappointing 17th place finish at Lernerville and only got worse at Portsmouth. During time trials the crew noticed the motor was not running up to snuff so they decided to pull out the backup car which had a brand new Edge Racing Engine under the hood. Bernheisel turned one lap in his backup car before the belt broke on the oil pump damaging the brand new power plant. Jim took a provisional to start the A-Main but only turned one lap and was credited with a 24th place finish. With two sour motors Bernheisel and DMB Motorsports decided to pack it up and head home missing the $10,000 to win show and dropping Jim from fifth to sixth in the MACS point standings. “I’m not even upset about it anymore, ” said a dejected Bernheisel. “We’re just so numb to the whole thing. I’ve blown 3 motors since July at Susquehanna and my son has blown up one. We’re getting pretty used to it. It’s no ones fault either, its all dumb stuff. It’s just been one of those years. “

The team took the following weekend off to regroup and get their engines back in running condition then headed to Hagerstown Speedway for the ‘Hub City 150’ this past weekend. Both Jim and Bryan Bernheisel signed in with this being Brian’s first attempt to qualify for the prestigious event. Bryan timed 31st quickest and finished fifth in his heat while Jim qualified 26th fastest and also finished fifth in his heat. After some major adjustments Jim was able to work his way up to seventh in his 50-lap qualifying race after starting 15th. Bryan started 14th in his 50-lap preliminary event and battled the extremely slick racing surface to finish 18th. Jim’s seventh place preliminary finish transferred him into the final 50-lap segment with a starting position of 13th. Jim was able to race to a respectable sixth place finish in the main event in his Bernheisel Race Components / Edge Racing Engines / Morrissey’s Meats / Advanced Development / Catoctin Development Lazer Chassis GTO ending a string of bad luck for the DMB Motorsports team. “I’m very proud of how hard my guys worked this weekend, ” stated the relieved racer. “After the way it has been the goal for the weekend was to just finish and be respectable. Running 6th is a big help to getting us back on track. ”

DMB Motorsports will take this weekend off and then head to Winchester Speedway in Winchester, VA on September 28th and 29th where Jim will be in action.
