Since the 2005 season, the ASA Late Model Series Presented by GM Performance Parts has graduated three drivers up into the ranks of NASCAR. 2005 ASALMS Challenge Division Champion, Stephen Leicht is now running the full schedule in the NASCAR Busch Series for Robert Yates Racing and is widely considered one of the top drivers to watch in 2007.
Two more drivers have made their way into the NASCAR fraternity. They include 2006 ASALMS Challenge Division Champion and Pat Bourdow Memorial Rookie of the Year, Kelly Bires, who is running for the 2007 Rookie of the Year title in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series for Wood Brothers JTG Racing and Landon Cassill, who was just recently signed by Hendrick Motorsports and is expected to make his NASCAR Busch and Craftsman Trucks Series debut later in 2007.
Drivers and teams from all over the United States have been closely following and monitoring the progress made by ASALMS graduates and the current class of drivers for the upcoming 2007 season. NASCAR teams have an ear towards all the happenings within the ASALMS as the series “Where Champions Race” will celebrate its’ Fifth Anniversary in 2007. One driver and team knows that fact very well and plans on adding their name to that coveted list of ASALMS graduates that features Leicht, Bires, and Cassill.
For the 2007 season, 14-year-old Tyler Townsend will be driving for the all new Total Performance Driver Development team, based in Nashville, Tennessee. Townsend will be running the full schedule of events within the ASALMS Southern Division with hopes of capturing the 2007 ASALMS South Rookie of the Year Title. In addition, Townsend also plans on making select appearances later this season in the crown jewel of the ASALMS, the Challenge Division.
As for TPR Driver Development; Former NASCAR Winston Cup driver and Crew Chief in the now defunct ASA National Tour; Darryl Sage and Chuck Moores of Nashville, Tennessee are jumping into the driver development industry with both feet with ties in NASCAR Nextel Cup, Busch and Craftsman Truck Series; the Nashville based Total Performance Racing Parts and Driver Development company has endless supply of resources and opportunities.
