Underfunded Brandon Johnson Looks To Win The 2007 Asalms Southern Division Overall And Rookie Titles
As the battles for the ASA Late Model Series Southern Division Presented by GM Performance Parts Overall Championship and Rookie of the Year titles come down to the wire this weekend in Birmingham, Alabama; One driver seems to have been overlooked throughout the 2007 season and that may prove to be a huge mistake! Longwood, Florida freshman, Brandon Johnson is right in the middle of both points battles as the 2007 ASALMS Southern Division Season Championships / Alabama 125 this Saturday October 27, 2007 at the Birmingham (AL) International Raceway in Birmingham, Alabama will see the crowning of both the 2007 ASALMS South Champion and Rookie of the Year.
Heading into the Alabama 125, Johnson is 59 points back of Jeff Choquette in both championship battles. Johnson is second behind Choquette in the Rookie title chase while actually standing third, just Eight (8) markers back of second place Beau Slocumb. For a driver who’s been overlooked all season, his focus has remained the same all season long; A Championship!
“We have a great shot at winning this years championship. All season we’ve worked really hard, sacrificed a lot of time, and learned many new tracks and set ups. ” Stated the quiet Johnson as he focuses on two possible championships. “I’m proud of all my performances on the track, I feel I treated the other drivers with respect and gave every race all that I have. ” He added.
Like Choquette, Johnson has a unique opportunity to join Kelly Bires, James Buescher, and Bobby Stremme as the only drivers in ASALMS history to win the Overall Championship and Rookie of the Year title in the same season. Johnson has put himself into this position despite not having a primary sponsor and a very limited pit crew which, including Johnson himself, usually consisted of Three (3) people.
