Long an automotive safety leader, Volvo has used the Sydney motor show to show off its green credentials and confirm it is investigating the local launch of its new DRIVe technology.

Included on its stand at Darling Harbour are two new DRIVe C30 models, one a turbo-diesel optimised for low consumption, the other employing bio-ethanol.

The 1.6-litre turbo-diesel DRIVe C30 features a more efficient driveline with optimised engine cooling, engine management and power steering, low-friction engine oil, a transmission with revised third, fourth and fifth gear ratios and a gearchange indicator.

The DRIVe lineup will be dramatically expanded in 20ll when Volvo introduces a new generation of petrol-turbo direct injection four-cylinder engines that will reduce fuel consumption and exhaust emission by as much as 30 per cent.
